Iran steel market Trend in Week 09th , 2017

Billet

Billet price was almost stable during last week in Iran. Size 150 mm started the week at USD 349 – 354 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT. By Monday it started declining. By Tuesday Khuzestan Steel co sold 15,000 tons of its billet at base price of USD 360 /mt excluding VAT at IME (Iran Mercantile Exchange), the deal didn’t affect retail market trend. The connection between price at IME and retail market don’t exist anymore.

Generally, it is yearend in Iran and demand is disappearing. There is only one working week for current Iranian year (New Year begin at 22 March) and any significant change in prices seems impossible.

Long Products

Long products experienced some fluctuations during last week in Iran which was due to producers’ pricing policies. They increased prices and decreased them again after market resistance.

Average price of debar diameter 14-25 mm started the week at USD 423 /mt ex-work including 9% VAT and finished it USD 3 /mt lower. I-beam price was unchanged and its market was quiet.

Flat Products

HRC 2 mm thickness was downward. It declined by USD 11 /mt to reach USD 563 /mt on truck in Anzali port including VAT and custom duty. Korean product also dropped by USD 3 /mt at Imam Khomeini port despite seller’s resistance to reach USD 571 /mt on truck in Imam Khomeini Port including VAT and custom duty.

For thickness 2.5-6 mm, prices were unchanged. As supply shortage and lack of demand made market stable. For thickness 6-15 mm some sizes are in limited supply but market can’t absorb any rise in prices at the moment.

Kavian Steel co HRP was still unavailable in the market. Oxin co product is in limited supply. Any way it is yearend and market sentiment is quiet.

CRC market was quiet with prices down by USD 5 -13 /mt except for size 0.60 mm. Downward trend is due to lack of demand. At the moment domestic products supply from Mobarakeh Steel co is enough to support demand.

HDG market finally experienced some changes. Supply shortage made its price for some sizes up by USD 26 /mt.
